Meet Sonia Fiorini

Hello, my fellow Ward 1 residents,

My name is Sonia Fiorini, and I am honoured to be running as your candidate for Ward 1 Councillor for the Town of Newmarket, ON.

I am a proud Newmarket resident, wife, mother, community volunteer, and a corporate Human Resources leader. Newmarket is where my family has built our home, formed friendships, and experienced the true meaning of community. It is a place we care deeply about, and I am committed to helping it continue to thrive for generations to come.

Family and service have always guided my life. Raised in York Region in a proud Italian family, I learned from my parents the values of hard work, integrity, respect, and compassion. They came to Canada at a young age, built successful lives through determination, and taught me that giving back to your community is one of the greatest responsibilities we can have.  My passion for public service began while volunteering on former MP Maurizio Bevilacqua's election campaign. That experience reinforced the importance of listening to residents, understanding different perspectives, and working collaboratively to solve community challenges and plan for future success.

Professionally, I have built my career as a Human Resources leader, partnering with corporate businesses, educational institutions, government, and healthcare organizations. Throughout my career, I have led strategic initiatives, built high-performing teams, and developed practical solutions that deliver meaningful results. From creating employment pathways for graduating nurses to supporting healthcare staffing initiatives for outpatients and developing strong business cases with finance and procurement teams, I have consistently focused on bringing people together to achieve positive outcomes.

These experiences have prepared me to serve our community with thoughtful leadership, fiscal responsibility, and sound decision-making. As your Ward 1 Councillor, I will be approachable, accountable, and committed to listening first. I will advocate for residents, work collaboratively with the Council and community partners, and make decisions that reflect the best interests of Ward 1 and the entire community of Newmarket.

I firmly believe that actions speak louder than words, and I am excited to roll up my sleeves and work alongside all our residents to build an even stronger, more connected Ward 1.
